Hunslet Schools
Hunslet has had many schools in it's long and varied history, here are a few salient dates, taken from Wifred Calvert's "Hunslet de Ledes": Hunslet National School, built 1843 on the junction of Balm Road and Church Street. Jack Lane School, opened November 11th 1874.
Bewerley Street School - first one to be built by the old Leeds School Board, opened August 8th, 1873. Hunslet Carr School - Foundation stone laid November 1874. Replaced by a new school in the 1990's. Low Road School, opened 1878. South Accommodation Road School, opened 9th January 1874. Dewsbury Road School (Rowland Road), opened June 1883. Cockburn High School opened July 17th 1902. Named after Sir George Cockburn, a former chairman of Leeds School Board. Hunslet Hall Road School, opened in the 1890's. Hunslet Lane School opened 14th March 1895. Cross Flatts School opened 1905. Hunslet Moor School opened 1909.
