Introduction to Local History in Leeds.

Introduction to Local History - Add Your local history LeedsThe local history of our own area is a source of endless fascination to anyone with an enquiring mind. How often have you walked around Leeds city centre, or your own neighbourhood, and wondered when a particularly old and interesting building was first built, who lived there, what was there before? What's the story behind the Black Prince in City Square? Why is the Headrow so named? Who designed the Corn Exchange, with its unique elliptical shape? The answers to all of these questions and much much more can be found, with a little digging, in the Local Studies Library in Leeds. You'll find that once you've started, you don't want to stop! Local Studies has a wonderful collection of material to help you to find out about the history of your location, not just books, but a huge range of historic Ordnance Survey maps, the original photos which went to create the Leodis web-site, old local newspapers on microfilm and much more.
