Prints & Photographs
| Over 32,000 prints and photos are held in Local Studies, and most of these are now on the famous Leodis web-site. However, there is still a hard core of untapped material, mainly scenes from the rest of Yorkshire, but also many 19th century political posters, portraits of local worthies, and posters advertising events from many years ago. We can provide high-quality reproductions of almost all of these, at very reasonable prices! | |
| | Many of the images in the library's collection have come from the old City Engineers department, and are the working photographs used by the builders and surveyors when carrying out improvements to roads and demolishing the old slums of Leeds. These include fascinating images of street urchins all lined up to have their photo taken, as well as the rather less fascinating ones of the insides of sewers |
| The Leodis web-site contains not only images from the library collection, but also partner collections from the West Yorkshire Archive Service, Leeds Museums, the Thoresby Society and the Leeds Civic Trust. More recently, we have added photos from the Armley Society's collection, and are in the process of adding thousands of images of Morley from the David Atkinson Archive | |
