Rare Books
The Local Studies Library also has quite a few treasures tucked away in a secure stack. Original manuscripts of E.R. Eddison, Adel-born author of cult fantasy book 'The Worm Ouroboros', and 'A Fish Dinner in Memison'; Arms and pedigrees of noble Yorkshire families; the manuscripts of Leeds historian Alf Mattison, and the Sykes collection, a wonderfully eclectic collection of cuttings and manuscript relating to snippets of Leeds history, and which is a challenge to all who try to decipher it! All of these can be consulted by prior arrangement with the Local Studies staff. Proof of name, address and identity will be required, and for some items, you may be asked to sit alongside a member of staff.
